Funeral service for Orie Bill Wester will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Provencal United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Paul Grace officiating. Interment will follow at Provencal Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Mr. Wester, 88 of Provencal, passed away Monday, December 7, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side. He was enrolled in the CCC camp beginning in July of 1940 and was honorably discharged from those duties in December of 1940. He served on the Natchitoches Parish School Board, Ward 7 beginning in 1954 until 1960. He was also a member of the Natchitoches Police Jury, Ward 7 from 1968 until 1972 and District 10 from 1976 until 1984, serving as the President of the Police Jury during his term. For 12 years he drove a school bus for Natchitoches Parish School District. He owned and operated the general store in Provencal for over 40 years. Mr. Wester will always be known as a man willing to help others in need.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jewel Castaing Wester of Provencal; brother, Vernon Wester of Provencal; children, Billy Wester and his wife Barbara of Provencal, Francine Cook of Provencal, Richard Wester and his wife Carol of Natchitoches, Steve Wester and his wife Gwen of Pineville, and Suzanne Custis and her husband Marc of Provencal; eleven grandchildren, Sean D. Wester of Okinawa, Japan, Jason Wester of San Antonio, TX, Selena Wester and Caleb Wester of Provencal, Layna Cook of Baton Rouge, Lyne Robinson of Bossier City; Daniel Wester of Rapid City, SD, Haley Wester of Waco, TX, Joshua Wester and Lacey Bonvillain of Covington, and Carson Custis of Provencal; eleven great grandchildren, Krystal, Kourtney, Kelsea, Kayla, Hayley, Jackson, Eli, Evan, Acian Wester, Landen and MaKenna Robinson
He was preceded by his parents, Olie Bud Wester and Cora Butcher Wester of Provencal; three brothers, D.C. Wester, Woodrow Wester, and Oather Wester all of Provencal; two sisters, Odelle Hines of Provencal and Fannie Belle Rhodes of Many.
Pallbearers will be Billy Wester, Richard Wester, Steve Wester, Josh Wester, Marc Custis, and Josh Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carson Custis, Caleb Wester, and Landen Robinson.
