Jeannene Morris

Jeannie Morris of Natchitoches succumbed to complications following open heart surgery Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010. Visitation will be at the Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 20 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral and interment services will be conducted by the Rev. Craig Beeman at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20 at Calvary Baptist Church on La. 3191. Mrs. Morris, a long time resident of Natchitoches, was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Shreveport. She worked for many years at the Valley Electric Membership Corporation and was an active teacher and choir member of Calvary Baptist Church. She also served as house mother of the Northwestern State University chapter of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Jeannie's quick wit, interest in others and deep spiritual commitment endeared her to all those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis C. Holley of Victoria, Texas; and her mother, Vera Coutee of Natchitoches; and her younger sister, Marvell Coutee of Shreveport. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, James A. Morris of Natchitoches; one sister, Tabitha Brewster of Shreveport; sons, James R. Talmadge of Natchitoches and Robert E. Talmadge of Bedford, Texas; daughter, Lydia J. Cosumano of Huntsville, Ala.; grandsons, Brad Vascocu of Natchitoches and John R. Talmadge of Sebastian, Fla.; granddaughters, Jennifer S. Talmadge of Natchitoches, Kristen A. Taakla of Manhattan, N.Y., Deanna Vouvakis of Huntsville, Ala., and Leah Romero of Washington, D.C.; great- grandsons, Cody Oliff of Natchitoches, Jackson R. Talmadge and Cullen J. Talmadge of Sebastian, Fla., and Joseph Vouvakis of Washington, D.C.; great- granddaughters, Macy Paige Vascocu of Natchitoches, Chloe Vouvakis of Huntsville and Perla Romero of Washington; niece, Barbara Hanson of Shreveport; great-nephew, Butchie Hanson of Shreveport; great-niece, Deborah Burdine of Jefferson, Texas; and two stepsons, Jeff and Michael Morris of Shreveport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
