Funeral Service for Mr. Edgar Leroy Rister will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Mora Cemetery in Mora, LA. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17th from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., on Thursday, March 18th from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Friday, March 19th from 8 a.m. until service time at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
Edgar Leroy Rister, age 86, of Natchitoches, La., died Monday, March 15, 2010. He was born December 12, 1923 to the late George Rister and the late Minnie (Blackshur) Rister in Mora, LA. He was one of six siblings, who have all preceded him in death; sisters, Bena Versyvelt and Mildred Hayes; three brothers, Wilbur Rister, Andrew Rister, and Ova Rister. Edgar proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired as an automotive mechanic and was a member of The Phoenix Masonic Lodge #38. In 1989, he was the honored recipient of the Outstanding Older American Award for his service to his community.
He is survived by his two daughters, Dolores Cross of Natchitoches and Sheryl Griffin of Jennings, LA; three sons, Roger Rister and his wife Carolyn of Frierson, LA, George (Doug) Rister and his wife Stacy of Mead, CO, and Larry Rister of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Todd Cross, Jamie Rister, Michael Rister, Amy Rister, Tyler Rister, Evan Rister, Heather Griffin, Erik Griffin; great grandchildren, Hannah Griffin and Mattie Griffin.
