Funeral service for Mrs. Vivian Estelle “Susie” (LaCour) Parsons will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis, 848 Keyser Avenue, Natchitoches, LA. Reverends Charles Middleton, Donald Avery, Jerry Parsons and Doyle Bailey will officiate with interment following at Memory Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
Mrs. Parsons, 94, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010. She was born May 16, 1915 to the late Armand LaCour and late Docia Lestage LaCour in Natchitoches, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Earl Parsons; brother, Reed LaCour; sisters, Mary Ann LaCour Middleton and Mae LaCour.
Mrs. Parsons led an active and diversified life. From café waitressing at the old Natchitoches Hotel, to café ownership, artillery shell assembly work at The Louisiana Ordinance Plant to bookkeeping responsibilities at local TG&Y variety store, she moved through life cheerfully and with a sense of responsibility for herself and those around her.
In her later years, she joined the Cane River Stompers dancing group, competed in and won gold, silver and bronze medals in the Senior Olympics, sang with musical groups and participated with her friends in her daily Bible Study which was a source of strength and comfort for her.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Thomas Parsons and his wife Elvia of Baton Rouge and Gerald Ray Parsons and his wife Sharon of Waxahachie, TX; daughter, Barbara Bailey and her husband Doyle of Natchez, LA and stepdaughter Janice O’Brien and her husband J.D. of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Effie Cook and Elizabeth Daughtry; grandchildren, Amy Bailey Henao and her husband Edgar, Jeffrey Bailey and his wife Tina, Beth Bailey Molina and her husband Denis, Eric Parsons, Shana Parsons, Joel Parsons, Lindsay Parsons Clark and her husband Randon, Kevin O’Brien and Kelly O’Brien Wilson and her husband Rob; great grandchildren, Ryan Henao, Daniel Henao, Steven Henao, Allison Henao, Meagan Bailey, Kristoff Bailey, Halden Bailey, Natalie Molina, Ashton Parsons, Kennedy Clark, Randy Clark and Nate Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews that Susie loved as her own children.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made in Mrs. Parsons name to the 1st United Methodist Church of Natchitoches building fund or The Armand and Docia Lestage LaCour Scholarship Fund through Northwestern State University.
