A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Horace Rachal will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cloutierville, LA with Reverend Kenneth Obiekwe of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and Reverend Jason Gootee of Holy Cross Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, May 24th at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
Horace Rachal, 92 years of age, went to accept his eternal place with our heavenly father on May 18, 2010.
Horace was born on December 29, 1917 in Derry, LA to the late Joseph and Cora Rachal and a family union of 13 children. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Ella D. Byone of Natchitoches; 3 daughters, Doris Sers (Tony) of Albuquerque, NM, Dorothy Beaudoin of Shreveport, and Mary Jane Metoyer (Vincent) of Natchitoches; 3 sons, Marvin Byone (Lucy), Horace Byone and Harrison Byone (Stephanie) all of Natchitoches; 2 sisters, Cecile Monette (Felix) of Derry and Lucille Conde (James) of Cloutierville; 2 brothers, Henry Rachal (Doris) of Derry and Clarence Rachal of Chattanooga, TN; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; special family members, Daniel Beaudoin (Mary Ann) and an extended family to include 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Horace was a wonderful and loving person. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He possessed a strong will and a determination to do the Lord’s will. He constantly said never take a day for granted and to love life. Horace touched so many lives with his gentle spirit and generous heart. He made friends feel like family with his expression of “I am blessed”. The twinkle in his eyes, his hand squeeze and his playful pinch showed his love and friendship to all that knew him.
Horace was a farmer as well as being retired from the Natchitoches Parish Hospital. He attended Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He loved to fish, hunt and make gumbo file’. He enjoyed gardening, watching baseball games and never missed watching the Wheel of Fortune. He will be dearly missed, but he lives on through all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Conde Rachal; 5 sisters, Henrietta Beaudoin, Bertha Bayone, Nora Mae Balthazar, Florence Beaudoin and Julia Rachal; 3 brothers, Raymond Rachal, Elmo Rachal and Roy Rachal.
The family wishes to offer a special thanks to all who gave medical care to Mr. Horace through the last several years, especially Dr. Harris and staff, Dr. Chris Ingram and staff, Dr. Hendrix and staff, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Louisiana Extended Care and the Courtyard of Natchitoches.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Bruce Sers, Joseph Beaudoin III, Waylon Metoyer, Marvin Byone Jr., Harrison Bayone Jr. and Vincent Metoyer, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Sers, Cameron Perry, Roy Beaudoin, Donald Rachal, Raymond “Pinto” Rachal, Jr., Steven Rachal, Jerry Beaudoin, Daniel James Beaudoin and Frank Beaudoin, Jr.
