Funeral service for N. L. 'Hoss' Vercher, Jr. will be held 3 PM Monday, May 24, 2010 in The Minor Basilica of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Natchitoches, La. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 4 PM until 8 PM with a rosary at 7 PM and visitation on Monday, May 24, 2010 from 8 AM until 2 PM in Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Vercher, 84, of Natchitoches, La., died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in Natchitoches, La. Mr. Vercher was a native and lifelong resident of Natchitoches, La. He was a retired rural carrier for the U. S. Postal Service with 38 years of service and a longtime funeral director for Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army. He received a purple heart during his tour of duty in Italy. He was preceded in death by parents, Nicholas Lynn Vercher, Sr. and Amie Lucille McNaughton Vercher; one great-grandchild, Autumn Allard. He is survived by his wife of 59 and a half years, Billie Rae Grayson Vercher of Natchitoches, La.; two daughters, Debbie Ralston and husband Bruce and Mary Ralston and husband Bob all of Natchitoches, La.; four sons, Ronnie Vercher of Mooringsport, La.; Tommy Vercher and wife Lisa of Natchitoches, La., Donnie Vercher and wife Kayron of Shreveport, La., and John Vercher and wife Amy of Marthaville, La. eleven grandchildren, Garrick Vercher, Amie Zsimovan, Susie Turner, Jessica Garcia, Erin Ralston, Lauren Ralston, Tyler Ralston, Alicia Harris, Stephen Allard, Stephanie Allard, Staci Allard; eight great-grandchildren, Zeke Zsimovan, Daniel Garcia, Morgan Garcia, Dylan Richardson, Caleb Richardson, Summer Richardson, Will Harris, Anna Harris. Pallbearers will be Bob Ralston, Bruce Ralston, George Lambert, Tommy Vercher, Garrick Vercher, and Tyler Ralston. Honorary pallbearers will George Grayson, John Grayson, Larry Broadwater, J. W. Smith, Jr. David Smith, Bruce Kitchens, Brian Carroll, Mike Murphy, Dwane Murphy, L. E. Sklar, and Charles D. Perot. Memorials may be made to The Minor Basilica of The Immaculate Conception Church.
