Funeral service for Evelyn W. Cook will be held 2 PM Monday, June 7, 2010 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev, Brian Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery at Marthaville, La. Visitation will be Monday, June 7, 2010 from 1 PM until service time in the funeral home.
Ms. Cook, 92 of Natchitoches, La. died Friday, June 4, 2010 in the Courtyard of Natchitoches Nursing Home.
Ms. Cook was born in Marthaville, La. on March 6, 1918 to parents Jett and Nellie Fleming Cook. She was a graduate of Marthaville High School, Normal now Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin Universities. She was a taught school for Beauregard and Natchitoches Parishes School Boards for thirty-five years. During this time and after retirement she tutored students with seldom a charge. She also gave financial help to several college students. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for many years. She served as an officer and on the board of directors for Bethany Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jett John Cook and Nellie Fleming Cook; four brothers, Alva, Truman, Bill, and H.B. 'Bobby' Cook
She is survived by one brother, Houston Cook of Natchitoches, La.; four nieces, Donna Cook of San Antonio, Tx., Marcia Cook Lee and husband Charles of Baton Rouge, La., Gloria Cook Worthey and husband John of Shreveport, La., and Layna Cook Grau and husband Jim of Perdido Key, Fl.; great-niece, Veronica Cook Groves and husband Robbie of Shreveport, La.
Pallbearers will be Jim Nelson, Dennis Salley, Norman McFerrin, Coy Birdwell, Ted Singletary, and Ronnie Gwinn.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Wells, Troy Durr, Brad Stewart and Vernon Birdwell.
