Funeral service for Reverend Morris Jerry Mitchell will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Marthaville, LA with Reverend Benny Alford and Reverend Glenn Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Marthaville Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 until time of service on Friday at the church. Reverend Mitchell, 75 years of age, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010. He was born July 11, 1935 in Wheeling, LA to the late Leonard Mitchell and late Gladys Brady Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Auburn Mitchell. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Brother Jerry was truly a servant of God ministering to many in the Northwest Louisiana area. He was ordained at Frierson Baptist Church and his first pastoral duties were served with Iatt Baptist Church. Brother Jerry went on to serve many at Cross Roads Baptist, Provencal, Harmony, Mansfield, Springhill, Fisher and Pilgrim’s Rest. He will be dearly missed by his family but they take comfort in knowing he is with his heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Blanch Earline Mitchell of Marthaville; daughter, Connie Dans and her husband Billy of Marthaville; a son, Chris Mitchell and his wife Meloney of Many; sister, Elois Parker and her husband Bud of Winnfield; grandchildren, Brandon Mitchell, Angelina Mitchell and James Tabor. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Gary Parker, J. D. Parker, Kevin Mitchell, Pat Roe, Ricky Rison, Scott Tilton, John Jordan and Tyler Sharp.
