Sheila Owen Maynard of Natchitoches passed away on October 13, 2006. She
was 89.
She was born in Dallas, Texas on July 11, 1917, to Walter Owen and Mary
Agnes Mowat Owen.
She was married in Dallas on July 3, 1937 to Doyle Franklin Maynard, who
died in 1988. Their 51 year marriage led them from Dallas to New Orleans
and later to Shreveport. In 1952 they moved to Natchitoches where they
owned and operated the Don Theatre on Front Street. They expanded their
business to include motion picture theatres in Alexandria, Ruston, Oakdale,
and Jonesboro, and in 1984 built the Parkway Cinema in Natchitoches.
Sheila and Doyle Maynard were proud parents of three children, eight
grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom survive her.
Their son, Truman Maynard, lives in Natchitoches with his wife, Martha.
Their daughter, Suzanne Maynard Lanuza, lives in Silverthorne, Colorado,
with her husband, Vincent.
Their daughter, Christine Maynard Scott, lives in Natchitoches with her
husband, Raike.
Sheila Maynard was active in the management of Don Theatres, Inc., but also
enjoyed a successful career as a Realtor with Taylor Realty of Natchitoches.
She was an avid bridge player and loved fishing.
She volunteered her time in support of the Natchitoches Genealogical
Society, and compiled several family histories.
Sheila Maynard was a past president of the Service League of Natchitoches, a
member of the Association for Preservation of Historic Natchitoches, and a
member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday evening, October 16 at 6:00 PM until 9:00
P.M. at Blanchard-St Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Funeral services
will be held on Tuesday October 17 at 10:00 AM at the Blanchard-St Denis
chapel with Rev. Kathy Muder officiating, with burial to follow in Memory
Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
