Funeral services for Mr. Boyd B. Durr will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Thompson, Brother Bruce Mitchell, Sergeant Ross Desadier and Louis Bernard officiating. Interment with Masonic rites being performed will follow at Fern Park Cemetery of Natchitoches. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. Mr. Durr passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Courtyard of Natchitoches. He was born January 16, 1926 in Ajax, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jackson and Minnie Bell Loving Durr as well as his eleven siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Vermel “Sis” Durr; four sons, Malcolm and wife Liz of Natchitoches, Kenny and wife Sharon of Natchitoches, Greg and wife Pat of Fayette, AL and Mike and wife Donna of Linville, LA; two daughters, Julia Duplessis and husband John of Prairieville, LA and Shelia Todd and husband William of Carthage, MO; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and Paw-Paw. He truly loved his Lord, his family and his fellowman. His law enforcement career spanned over 54 years, beginning September 26, 1946 as a police officer for the City of Natchitoches. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Police Chief. After retiring from the city, he served as City Marshall for the City of Natchitoches. He returned to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office as Chief Deputy and realized his dream of becoming Sheriff for the wonderful people of Natchitoches Parish. He served as Sheriff until his retirement in 2000. He was a devoted peace officer and Lawman who took great care and pride in the service he provided. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, Louisiana Peace Officers Association, Louisiana Municipal Police Officers, National Sheriff’s Association, Chief of Police Association, Phoenix Lodge #38 of the Free and Accepted Masons, El Karubba and Nakatosh Shrine Club. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit and Extended Care Departments of the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and to The Courtyard of Natchitoches for the care they provided Mr. Durr. A special thank you to Dr. John Harris and Dr. Chris Ingram. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Natchitoches Police Department and Natchitoches Fire Department honor guards. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Snelling, Woodrow Cox, Sherman “Bo” Wilson, Roger Ferrier, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Natchitoches Police Department.
