Simon La Cour passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Son was born on February 26, 1928 to the late Joseph Alvin (Alvan) LaCour and the late Lucille (Bay Bay) LaCour in Derry, Louisiana. He was united in marriage to his beloved Dorothy “Dot” Conant LaCour on June 26, 1952. They were blessed with two daughters, Jeanette and Josie. In 1962 the couple and their two children moved to California. Son was self employed in the cleaning service business for the first few years in California. Later he became the maintenance man for St. Michael's Girls Catholic High School in Los Angeles. Son was loved by all the staff and students there. The girls often called him “Daddy. ” When he retired after 25 years of service, he was given a bigger retirement party than most of the teachers that had taught there. Whenever someone visited the school, they always raved how clean everything was. He would fuss at any student who threw trash on the floor, but they all loved him. Son had a good and happy life. Later, after they had been retired for a few years, Son & Dot decided to come back home to Louisiana. Daddy always loved Cane River. He was a loving husband and father, and devoted friend. He enjoyed getting out and talking to people. Many times he came to Church and looked fine while at the same time the doctors were amazed he was still walking. He was a “tough cookie”. He fought a long time. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy “Dot” La Cour; his parents, Joseph and Lucille LaCour; and his brothers, Brazil LaCour and Roosevelt LaCour. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jeanette Conant (Gerald) and Josie La Cour (Monty); his brothers, Anthony La Cour (Indiana) Roylin La Cour, and McKinley LaCour; his sister, Severine Moran (James); sister-in-laws, Clothilda La Cour, Laocadia La Cour and Mary Eloisa Shelby (Brent); brother-in-law, Joseph G. Conant, Jr. (Darnell); grandchildren, Jeremy Thomas (America); Jason Thomas (Miriam) and Roosevelt Washington III (Ashton); great-grandchildren, Lincoln Thomas and Grayson Thomas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
