J.A. ”Debs” Moore was a life-long resident of Marthaville. He was married to his sweetheart, Ettie Moody Moore for 73 years until her death in 2008. He was a hard working farmer starting at age 13 when he bought his first cow for $8. Over the years he has raised cows, pigs, chickens, goats and donkeys on his 450 acres of land. He never liked to sit still for long and was a man of few words. He hated going to the doctor and very seldom took more than an aspirin.
He welcomed everyone into his home and would always say when they were leaving, “I am glad you got to see me.” He had a great wit that would always make you laugh. He loved sitting in his rocking chair, whittling on a stick, riding on his four-wheeler, drinking his afternoon coffee, eating a handful of peanuts after supper, and a bowl of ice cream at night. Most of all he loved his family and friends and they loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ettie Moody Moore, his parents, Joe Sidney Moore and Mable Horn Moore; six sisters, Mattie Moore Prim, Annie Lee Moore Olliff, Selma Moore Miller Craig, Alice Moore Gunnel, Almelia Moore, and Ocie Moore Mustin; three brothers, Amos Moore, Floyd Moore, and Avis Moore; and one grandson, Robert Allen Moore.
He is survived by three sons, Travis Moore of Marthaville, Alvin Moore and wife Mildred of Natchitoches, LA, and Bennett “Ben” Moore and wife Elvira of Shreveport, LA; six grandchildren, Frances Moore Contario, Tonya Moore Strahan and husband Terry, Christi Moore Rinaudo and husband Tony, Staci Moore Kelley and husband Randy, Steven Moore and wife Monika, and Kyle Moore and wife Marla; eleven great grandchildren, Braden Contario, Jessica Moore Chessir and husband Jeff, Ginni Draper, Dustin Draper, Katelyn Kelley, Tyler Kelley, Christina Moore, Stephanie Moore, James Moore, William Moore, and Thomas Moore; one great-great grandchild, Jentri Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses at Harmony Home Health.
