Funeral service for Alva R. Lary will be held 10 AM Thursday, January 25 2007 in First Baptist Church of Montgomery, La. with Dr. Ray Teal and Rev. Mike Stowell officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery at Montgomery, La. with full military graveside rites by Fort Polk, La. Arrangements are by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 5 PM until 9 PM and on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 8 AM until service time in the First Baptist Church of Montgomery, La.
Mr. Lary, 74, of Montgomery, La., died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, in his residence at Montgomery, La.
He was a native of Heflin, La. He was a retired Colonel U.S. Army, retired Deputy Sheriff for Grant Parish Sheriff's Office. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church Montgomery, La. He was also a member of Pi Kappa Phi, Employer Support of the Guard and the Reserve, Cenla Chamber Of Commerce, Military Officers Association. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Leon Lary and Mittie Ola O'Rear Lary.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joann Bailiff Lary of Montgomery, La.; one daughter, Lynn Lary of Coushatta, La.; one son, Richard Lary and wife Becky of Keithville, La.; two grandchildren, Allison Lary and Camryn Lary who loved their Papa Bull; two brothers, Jerry Lary of Deville, La. and Kenneth Lary of Sibley, La.
Pallbearers will be Reginald Kuhlmann, Roy D. Davison, Calvin McFerrin, Melvin Shaw, Brian Hines, and James G. Teddlie.
Honorary pallbearers will be James K. Lee, Charles Saucier, T. O. Harrison, Jr., Dr. Billy DeFee, Bill Gates, and Jay Ellington.
