Althea Vernell "Vernie" Ferrier

Vernell Ferrier, affectionately known as Vernie to her friends and regular customers, entered her eternal rest on the morning of October 22nd, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Helen Hoob, husband Bryan Ferrier, sons Timmy Ferrier and Marlon Ferrier, and daughter Jerrilyn Hymes. 

She is survived by: her brother James Troy Hoob (Melba) of Stonewall, LA, her sister Linda D. Mitchell of Natchitoches, LA, daughters Lydia Dalene Huckaby (Larry) of Flora, LA, Brandi Warren (Daniel) of Provencal, LA, grandchildren Heather Dutcher (Adam) of Haughton, LA, Amy Kirkaldy (Mick) of Bossier City, LA, Chad Price (Brianna) of Haughton, LA, Melody Ferrier of Natchitoches, LA, Brian Ferrier of Campti, LA, Jason Rachal of Shreveport, LA, Lindsey Rachal of Shreveport, LA, Brooke Campbell (Jacob) of Flora, LA, Reece Warren (Isabelle) of Provencal, LA, and Jerry Ferrier of Campti, LA. Vernell is also survived by 16 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. 

Vernell was the true definition of living life to the fullest. On any given weekend, she was ready to greet you with a smile on a Friday or Saturday night as you entered the doors of JJs, as she was a long-time employee of the establishment. Even after retiring from bartending, it wasn’t uncommon to see her pop in for a visit. She liked things done a certain way and was certainly not afraid to tell you how she wanted it done or if it was done wrong. 

She loved to spend time with her family and had an open-door policy when it came to her children and grandchildren and their friends. She enjoyed cooking for her family and often cooked way too much just to make sure there was enough for everybody to take food home. 

The family would like to thank Lagniappe Home Care, The Courtyard of Natchitoches, and Hospice of Natchitoches for their care and attentiveness to Mrs. Vernell. 

Honorary pall bearers are Daniel Warren, Adam Dutcher, Jacob Compton, Price Lenser, Jackson Lenser, Nathaniel Owens, Taylor Ferrier, James Owens, Reece Warren, Jacob Campbell, Matt Flynn, Dylan LeDoux, Patrick Mobley, and Stanley Price. 

 A memorial in Vernell’s honor will be held at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11 AM. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until time of service.
