Alton Eugene Shockley, known by many as Gene, was born on September 9, 1949, in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on January 9, 2025, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, after a lengthy illness. Gene was a man of many facets, whose life was marked by commitment to both family and career. He worked in the Oil and Gas industry and had a successful stint as a car salesman.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his daughters, Christina Feazell (Doug) and Angie Hickman (Ross); along with his grandchildren, Trevor Durbin, Preslie Durbin, Mollie Durbin, Aaron Hickman, and Carson Hickman. Gene maintained a close friendship with his former spouse, Arlene Shockley, his cousin Robert Shockley and his dear friend Joy Murray. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember him fondly.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Shockley and Ellen Simmons Shockley, and a cousin, Wayne Shockley and his wife Hazel.
Raised in Shreveport, Gene attended Caddo Heights Elementary and was a proud 1967 graduate of Woodlawn High School. His passion for sports was unmatched, as he fervently followed collegiate athletics, particularly baseball and football. An ardent supporter of LSU and the New Orleans Saints, Alton cherished the camaraderie that accompanied watching games. His love for nature was evident through his enjoyment of fishing and hunting, and especially residing at Black Lake, where he often found peace and happiness.
Gene was known not only for his interests but also for his deeply held beliefs. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and generously shared his faith with everyone he met. His devotion extended beyond his faith, as he treasured his family, especially his adored grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Gene also had a special bond with his beloved dogs, particularly one named Daisy, who was a cherished companion.
A service to honor his life will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, January 11th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Buster Jordan officiating. His wishes were to be cremated and then be buried next to his parents at Hillcrest Centuries in Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11th from 12 PM until service time at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Trevor Durbin, Aaron Hickman, Carson Hickman, Ross Hickman an Doug Feazell.
Due to his wishes for cremation, donations in his name may be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of floral contributions.
Gene Shockley will be remembered for his passionate spirit, unwavering faith, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
