On Saturday, February 10th, Audrey Faye Birdwell Sims left her temporary home at the age of 75. Audrey grew up in Marthaville, LA where she graduated high school, and the majority of the town were relatives. She always shared joyful memories of growing up with all of her cousins. After college at Westminster (Wesley), Audrey held several secretarial positions. She moved to the Shreveport-Bossier area in the mid 1980’s where she raised her two kids. She truly enjoyed her time being a boy scout mom. Audrey never met a stranger, and if you gave her a few minutes, she’d somehow discover how she knew one of your kinfolk. She had many hobbies and interests, but she thoroughly enjoyed genealogy searching, scrapbooking, crafts, sewing, listening and singing gospel music, and gardening. Audrey was the biggest fan at the ball fields watching her kids and grandkids play. Her most favorite thing of all was loving on her family, and spoiling all of her grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Myrle Birdwell; and brother, George Birdwell. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Lisa and husband Randy Fortmann; son Chad and wife Cheryl Sims; Grandchildren, Kristi (Travis) Beaty, Randy (Brittani) Fortmann,Jr., Chelsi (Jacob) Ziegler, Chelsea Fortmann, Connor Sims, Chloe Sims, and Kalyn Fortmann. She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren, and her sister Virgina (Jerry) Sandifer.
Services for Audrey will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Jennings Chapel 368 HWY 1221 Marthaville, LA 71450 with visitation from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Bro. Brian Ray officiating. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Connor Sims, Doug Birdwell, Jason Patton, Randy Fortmann, Jr., Brad Sandifer, and Billy Smothermon. Honorary pallbearers, as Audrey requested, are her first cousins Mike, Coy, Bobby Dean, Steve, Stacey, Hal, Mervin, Winston, Keith, and Gary Birdwell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Care Center for loving and caring for her these last few years. We all learned many things from this wonderful lady, except how to live without her. But, we will find comfort in knowing that she now resides in a glorious mansion.
