Benedict "Bubba" LaCour, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Benedict LaCour, Jr. will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle with Rev. Charles Ray serving as celebrant. He will be entombed in the St. Augustine Catholic Mausoleum following the mass. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Saturday the 21st with recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 10:30 am. Repast will follow in the St. Augustine Parish Hall. Benedict “Bubba” C. LaCour 76, entered into Eternal Life Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Benedict Clay LaCour Jr. was born December 1, 1945 in Natchitoches, LA to Benedict P. LaCour Sr. and Stella Severin LaCour. Benedict moved to Chicago with his family when he was in the 8th grade going on to attend Wells High School in Chicago. He later enlisted in the Army, serving one tour as a Field Artillery Gun Loader in the Jungles of VietNam with 4th Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery. From the earliest stages of his life he embraced the traits of a hard worker. First working at the side of his father, Benedict Sr. at Clyde’s Donuts in Lincoln Park, Chicago. They shared this time together and he often reflected on the sweet and warm memories of making those donuts each morning. Benedict was highly self motivated with mental and physical stamina to make things happen. He always found a way through personal sacrifice and vision for what he wanted, while keenly managing to do more than what others could only try to do. His generosity was always shared with all members of his family in great abundance, often sharing the light of his knowledge and expertise in profound ways that brought comfort to the homes of his family through sharing his gifts of a professional electrician and skilled tradesman. After being honorably discharged from Army, he returned home to Chicago Illinois and started working for the City of Chicago as a ground electric lineman. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Local Union 9. After working with the city of Chicago for 33 years he retired to Louisiana. After retiring from the City of Chicago he met and married his wife of 21 years, Jannie Meziere LaCour. Benedict always enjoyed cooking, fishing, visiting with and sharing good memories at the side of his family. His six nieces and nephews, Angela, Sabrina, Johnnie, Barry, Glenn & Paul each enjoyed ample, joyful and playful memories of an uncle who lovingly laughed and played with them throughout their lives as children & adults. Known for his generosity he came at Christmas with giant sacks of toys over his shoulder, giving countless piggy back rides, rolls across the lawn and enormous pushes on tire swings. He loved sharing the gut-busting laughter, physical farce and slapstick comedy of “The Three Stooges”. Offering best renditions of “Why I oughta…”, “Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk!” or “Oh, a wise guy, eh?....” It is of great consolation to his family that he received the Blessing of Our Lord’s Divine Mercy upon his safe return home from VietNam. He experienced the painful loss of many friends and fellow soldiers during this time of tribulation. Yet he rose from the experience with a lifelong appreciation of friendship and brotherhood. His faith was ever present in and throughout his entire life. His cousin Mary wrote to him while in VietNam and faithfully reminded him to pray for the intercession of Saint Jude for his safe return home. Our Lord Jesus in whom we all trust responded to his petition on the eve of his homecoming; his tent was obliterated but his body and faith was intact as he returned safely home to his family. Thankful for the life he was given to live, he vowed his devotion to God’s Divine Mercy when he built a grotto at his home on the banks of Cane River to venerate Our Lady of Lourdes and his Patron Saint Jude who interceded and spiritually guided him through his dangerous deployment in VietNam. Bubba always dreamed of building his own house and living along Cane River. His favorite pastime was fishing, traveling with his wife and spending time with his dog (Muff). He will be remembered for his smile on his face while telling corny jokes and stories. He was easy going and kind hearted to family, friends and strangers. He always had a positive outlook in life and will truly be missed by all who know him. Benedict died in peace at home; and till his last days spoke of the grace bestowed on him through the loving embrace of his wife Jannie and sons Eric and Marcus at his side. Bubba is preceded in death by his parents; one sister Angela Metoyer and his first wife Mary-Margeret LaCaze. He is survived by wife, Jannie LaCour; three step-sons, Eric Long (Silby) sons Eric & Stefon, Jeffery Long (Tshaka) daughter Tiombe, & Marcus Sarpy; his brothers John Severin Sr (Elizabeth) & Joseph “Sam” LaCour; his sisters Stella LaCour & Doris Balthazar (Pervis); niece Sabrina Cajandig (Ivan) son Gabriel; Nephews Johnnie Severin & daughters Jessica & Anastasia, Barry Severin (Rochelle) sons Russel, Jonathan, Ryan & daughters Mary, Brianna and Angela, Glenn Severin (Sharon) daughters Nichole, Gina & Nina, Paul Severin (Laura) sons Nicholas, Joshua & daughter Sarah.
