Dr. Tommy Dunagan

A service to celebrate the life of Dr. Tommy Dunagan will be at 11 am Thursday, November 15, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches with Rev. Tommy Rush officiating.  Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 am until service time at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches located at 508 2nd St., Natchitoches, LA 71457.  Tommy was a graduate of Gladewater High School in Gladewater, TX.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree from East Texas State University and his Doctoral Degree from North Texas State University in Denton, TX.  Tommy taught printing and drafting at NSU and was in charge of the NSU print shop for many years.  For over 30 years, he was the owner and operator of Impressions by Dunagan in Natchitoches.  He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches and enjoyed participating in the choir as well as teaching Sunday school and being R.A. Missions Director for many years.  He was an instrumental part of the Couples Too Sunday School Class and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Buckelew Dunagan; two children, Thomas Lynn Dunagan and wife Dee Dee of Natchitoches and Cherie Kay Maynard and husband Jon of Oxford, MS; five grandchildren, Nikki Dunagan, Kyle Dunagan and wife Kayla, Katie Jones and husband Daniel, Connor Maynard and Holly Maynard; seven great-grandchildren, Weston Dunagan, Whitni Dunagan, Bella Hardy, Bentley Hardy, Collin Jones, Mallory Jones and Cooper Jones. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Jasper Baudoin, Jon Maynard, Connor Maynard, Daniel Jones, Tony Coe, Jerry Smith, Austin McNeely, and Kyle Dunagan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Dunahoe, Edd Hunter, Jeff Guilliams, W.K. Norman, Ed Kaufman, Tynes Hildebrand, Mark Swafford, David Kees, Jimmy Talmadge, Homer Scott, and Larry Phillips.  Memorials in Tommy’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105, First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, 508 2nd St, Natchitoches, LA 71457, or to a charity of your choice.
