Edna, 86 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away on January 13, 2021. She was born on July 19, 1934 to Clyde Stevens and Jessie Mae Williams Stevens in Midway, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Steve Lambert; a son, William Baker; and brothers, Ted and Glenn Stevens. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Fredieu; sons, Sammy Baker, Robert Baker, Johnny Baker, and Kelly Bowman (Denise); as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edna was a genuine soul who embodied every attribute of a loving, selfless woman. After losing her mother at the age of 5, she had an imposing childhood that found her placed in an orphanage and mostly responsible for raising one of her younger brothers. Despite all the hardships and challenges she faced then and throughout her long life, Edna always depicted herself as utterly content. She never complained. Instead, she chose to be the most devoted mother and matriarch to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Perhaps she saw that as her opportunity to provide to them what she missed out on as a child. If that was her goal, boy did she succeed. She was loved unconditionally by so many who knew her. Most people called her “Grandma” whether they were related to her or not…probably because Grandma made each person she met instantly feel loved and “like family.” But what Grandma will forever be known and remembered for was her smile. When Grandma smiled at you, all your troubles seemed to melt away. Any stresses, problems, or challenges you were dealing with didn’t seem to matter anymore. Grandma smiled with every muscle in her face, as if to say, “I can only hope you’re as happy to see me as I am to see you.” We can only imagine how big that smile is on Grandma’s face today…with her arms around her mother…and her eyes gazing down on those she loved so unconditionally. Heaven has truly gained a special angel. God bless you, Grandma…and thank you for teaching all of us how to love beyond our means. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Johnny Baker, Sammy Baker, Kelly Bowman, Chad Fredieu, Sammy Baker, Jr., Stuart Fredieu, Brandon Bernard, and Shane Caradine. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Stevens, Buddy Parker, Tony Fredieu, Johnny Baker, Jr., William Bowman, Tanner Walker, Jaxon Bernard, and Brandon Fredieu. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Courtyard of Natchitoches for the care they provided Edna while she was a resident.
