Evelyn Youngblood Roe Roberson, age 97 of Natchitoches, Louisiana died Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born August 11,1926 in Marthaville, LA, Evelyn was the oldest of four children of Cecil R. Youngblood and Annie Olive Youngblood. She graduated from Marthaville High School in 1943. On June 18, 1942, Evelyn married Louis O. Roe. Together they raised five children. Most of these years were spent in Marthaville, LA. After 41 years of marriage, Louis passed away in 1984. In 2001 Evelyn married Harrell Roberson. He passed away in 2019. Evelyn felt it an honor to have been married to two World War II veterans.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Annie Youngblood, and her three siblings, Janae Harpool, Thomas H. Youngblood, and Dot Willyerd Rogers. She is survived by her five children Ladelle StAndry (Nelson) of Natchitoches, LA, Steve Roe (Pat) of Bossier City, LA, Sarah Pleasant (Wayne) of Marthaville, LA, Tracy Roe (Virginia) of Keithville, LA, and Claire Ellerbe (Don)of Toledo Bend, LA. She is survived by eleven grandchildren, William Baker, Carla Dyes Clemmens, Shelli Pleasant Adams, Christi Dyes, Holly Roe Ellis, Stephanie Roe Bryson, Shauna Pleasant Hicks, Jason Roe, Mandy Roe, Brandie Roe, and Samantha Pleasant LeBas. Evelyn is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. Evelyn leaves behind 3 step-daughters, Carolyn Roberson Nance of Shawnee, OK, Ginger Roberson Jordan (Mark) of Florien, LA, and Becky Roberson Shoemaker (Mark) of Houston, TX, 7 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. In earlier years, she had been a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Business and Professional Women. She had a long career in journalism working for the Natchitoches Enterprise for Ken and Ursula Walker and the Natchitoches Times for Lovan Thomas. Evelyn was the News Editor for the Natchitoches Times for 31 years.
Throughout her life, Evelyn loved reading and doing crossword puzzles. Her education was also enriched from travel. She had been to most of the United States. Evelyn made several trips abroad with friends and family where she would always buy travel books to pore over when she returned home. Evelyn’s family considered her a self-educated “genius.” She loved reading, travel, music, and her church, but her greatest loves of all were her family and her Lord.
Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10;30 a.m. at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Rush & Rev. Ronnie Sandifer officiating. A burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville, LA. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Casey Gaddis for the care that she provided our mother. We also want to express our thanks and love to Mother’s long-time caregiver Penny Guin for her care and companionship for the last 11 years.
