George Douglas Birdwell, Sr.

A service to honor the life of George Douglas Birdwell, Sr. will be at 10 am Friday, March 22, 2019, at Robeline First Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Ray and Bro. Sam Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Marthaville.   The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 9 pm on Thursday, March 21st at Robeline First Baptist Church located at 7739 Oak St, Robeline, LA 71469. George, 69 years of age and a resident of Marthaville, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019.  He was born on January 23, 1950, to Raymond Douglas Birdwell and Myrle Rawls Birdwell in Pleasant Hill, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents. George was the owner and operator of Birdwell’s Fire Extinguisher Service for 27 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his wife of 49 years and creating lasting memories with his grandchildren who were the light of his life.  George was a God-fearing man who was never afraid to let anyone know about his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  A long-time member of Robeline First Baptist, he enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He is survived by his wife Becky Birdwell; children, George Douglas Birdwell, Jr. and wife Vanessa of Marthaville and Christi Birdwell Ray and husband Brian of Robeline; siblings, Audrey Sims of Haughton and Virginia Sandifer of Keithville.  He was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Jared Birdwell, Baylee Ray, Garet Ray, Raygan Ray, and Landen Ray. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Bobby Birdwell, Mervin Birdwell, Coy Birdwell, Gary Birdwell, Mike Birdwell, Steve Birdwell, Chad Sims, and Carl Birdwell.  Honorary pallbearers will be Garet Ray, Jared Birdwell, and Landen Ray. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Lauren Rutherford and Donnell McGee, his home health nurses that took excellent care of him during such a difficult time.
