August 28, 1937 — August 23, 2023

A service celebrating the light filled fun spirited life of Georgie Alice "Jokie" Cayer Taylor will be held at 10am on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches with Rev. Mrs. Taylor, 85 years of age, passed away peacefully August 23, 2023.  She was born August 28, 1937 to the late Louis Alfred Cayer, Jr. and the late Ruth Marie (Bordelon) Cayer in Long Bridge, LA.  Jokie was an Avoyelles Parish native and graduated from Marksville High.  She played basketball for Marksville High in the position of point guard as well as playing the clarinet in the Marksville High marching band.  Jokie was very passionate about Avoyelles Parish and was always looking for people connected to Avoyelles.  Upon graduation she attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge studying Home Economics where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. While attending LSU she met the love of her life, the late Henry Cook Taylor, Sr.  After moving to Natchitoches in the early sixties, Jokie became an avid Natchitoches supporter. She served as a member of the Natchitoches Service League, Natchitoches Northwestern Symphony Society and the Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches (APHN). Later in life she was a founding member of the Natchitoches Historic Foundation.  Jokie could be found all over town watering plants, planting flowers or pulling weeds.  She was a pistol of a person with an entertaining quality about her that was simply magnetic. She also had a fun-loving role in the "Lolly Gaggers", a group of friends that performed skits to entertain school aged children throughout Natchitoches Parish.

Those left to cherish her forever smiling memory include her three surviving children; daughter, Sadie Taylor Delatte of River Ridge and her husband Roy and their children Emily Delatte Williams and her husband Cody and their daughter Lillian and son Hudson, Adam Taylor Delatte and his wife Taryn and their sons Evan and Thomas and their daughter Lucy; son, Henry Cook Taylor, Jr. of Natchitoches and his wife Deborah and their children Katie Taylor Mix and her husband Jeff and their son Andre and their daughter Taylor, Kendra Elise Taylor and Shelby Taylor Strahan and her husband Joshua and their daughters Alyssa and Allie and sons Tyler and Thomas; Alice Taylor Tallis of Baton Rouge and her husband Mark and their son Geoffrey Reid Tallis and his wife Sydney and their daughter Audrey Louise Tallis.  She is proceeded in death by a son, William Alexander Taylor.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Marie Cayer Gregory of Roanoke Rapids, NC.  She is proceeded in death by a brother Louis Alfred Cayer, III.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Adam Delatte, Geoffrey Tallis, Joshua Strahan, Cody Williams, Fil Bordelon, and Mike McCullick. Honorary pallbearers include Scriven Taylor, Mike Miller, Ken Guidry, and Dwane Murphy.

Memorials in Mrs. Taylor's name may be made to the Natchitoches Historic Foundation and/or the First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches.
