Mrs. Taylor, 85 years of age, passed away peacefully August 23, 2023. She was born August 28, 1937 to the late Louis Alfred Cayer, Jr. and the late Ruth Marie (Bordelon) Cayer in Long Bridge, LA. Jokie was an Avoyelles Parish native and graduated from Marksville High. She played basketball for Marksville High in the position of point guard as well as playing the clarinet in the Marksville High marching band. Jokie was very passionate about Avoyelles Parish and was always looking for people connected to Avoyelles. Upon graduation she attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge studying Home Economics where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. While attending LSU she met the love of her life, the late Henry Cook Taylor, Sr. After moving to Natchitoches in the early sixties, Jokie became an avid Natchitoches supporter. She served as a member of the Natchitoches Service League, Natchitoches Northwestern Symphony Society and the Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches (APHN). Later in life she was a founding member of the Natchitoches Historic Foundation. Jokie could be found all over town watering plants, planting flowers or pulling weeds. She was a pistol of a person with an entertaining quality about her that was simply magnetic. She also had a fun-loving role in the "Lolly Gaggers", a group of friends that performed skits to entertain school aged children throughout Natchitoches Parish.
