Gwendell "Sue" Turnley

Funeral services for Gwendell “Sue” Turnley, 69, of Provençal, LA will be held at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Provençal First Baptist Church with Bro. Waylon Gauntt officiating.  Interment will follow at Provençal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 5:00 - 9: 00p.m at Provençal First Baptist Church.

Sue was born on August 25, 1953 and passed away on August 22, 2023. Sue was a loving wife of 52 years to Kenny Turnley and they had one son, Dwain Turnley. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. Sue loved the Lord, her family, playing bingo and listening to Jimmy Swaggart. Being a part of a large, close nit family made holidays extra special and she made sure they were filled with love and a lot of laughter!  Known to her friends and family by many names such as “Sue”,” Aunt Sue”,” Susie” or “Mama Sue”; the names that brought her the most joy were simply Momma and Wife.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Lucille Johnson Scarbrough; her grandparents, Osie and Rosie Scarbrough and A.N. and Lydia Martin Johnson; siblings, an infant sister; brother, Lavelle Scarbrough; sister, Barbara Graves(Floyd); brother, Joey Scarbrough; and sister, Sherry Scarbrough Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Joe Huff.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kenny Turnley; one son, Dwain Turnley; sisters, Jean Huff and Becky Broadway(Randy); one beloved brother, Dennis Scarbrough(Renee); two sisters-in-law, Patsy Rachal and Judy Scarbrough; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Joseph Huff, Danny Graves, Wade Scarbrough, Adam Outlaw, Ken Zacharias and Jonathan Meshell. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Hudson, Ronald Bourgeois and Thomas Doyle.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
