J. R. Davis

Mr. J.R. Davis at the age of 87, passed away peacefully in his home in Readhimer, Louisiana on September 5, 2022. J.R. our beloved dad, Pa Pa or Pa J.R., was born in Saline, Louisiana. After marrying his late wife Laverne, who he loved dearly, he moved to Readhimer, Louisiana where he resided for the rest of his life. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 66 years, Laverne Williams Davis, his father Grady Davis, his mother Gordie Taylor Davis, his brother Robert Lewis Davis, his sister Sybil Davis Holtzclaw, his sister Helen Davis Causey and his great grandson Tyler Nelson. J.R. is survived by his two children: son Robert Davis and wife Cathy, daughter Kathy Davis Self and husband Dale. Five grandchildren: Dawn Davis Nash and husband David, April Davis Nelson and husband Billy, Kristen Dillon and husband Thomas Dison, Matthew Dillon and wife Melany, and Ross Davis. Six great grandchildren: Lacy Conlay Smith, Aaron Conlay and wife McKenzie, Nigel Roberts, Kalei Nelson, Micah Dillon, and Jayden Nelson. Five great-great grandchildren: Ayden Smith, Devin Smith, Levi Conlay, Caleb Conlay, and Amiya Smith. J.R. loved his family and cherished each and every one of them. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting, fishing, and farming his land. He served as a deacon at Briarwood Baptist Church for many years. He loved the Lord and followed His teachings. J.R. had a positive and loving personality and a pure heart full of the love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved everyone and worked hard despite his missing limb. He did more with one helping hand than most did with two. He never missed a beat in life. Any weekday you could find him having a cup of coffee early in the mornings at the Hill Top in Saline while telling funny jokes and stories. On his way home he would often give away fruits and vegetables from his garden to the elderly and widows. The family will receive friends after 5 pm on Wednesday September 7, 2022 at Briarwood Baptist Church. A service honoring his life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 8th at Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer, LA. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chestnut, LA. Honoring him as Pallbearers will be Matthew Dillon, Ross Davis, Nigel Roberts, Billy Nelson, David Nash and Buddy Sullivan. Honorary Pallbearers are Dale Self, Scottie Williams, John Williams, David Phillips and Paul Darren Phillips.
