Mrs. Janet Flynn passed inter Eternal Life on Sunday, March 23, 2025, following a sudden illness.
Jan was born at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1944 to William C. and Elizabeth H. Potts and grew up in a naval aviator’s family. She graduated from LSU in 1966 with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, and later practiced her art (and she truly considered it The Art of Nursing) in Tennessee, Illinois, and Louisiana. Early in her career, she taught at the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis, and the majority of her later career was spent in nursing administration. She retired from Natchitoches Regional Medical Center as Vice President of Patient Care Services in 2010. She exemplified the best of her beloved calling and inspired her daughters, who followed in her professional steps.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fr. Rick Flynn, whom she wed in 1966 and her son, Bradford, who passed away in Natchitoches in 2016. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth and her sister, D’Ann. Her family includes daughter Kelly (Owen) Hines and their sons Aidan and Tucker, of Gulfport, MS, and daughter Jennifer (Chris) Galey and their daughter Addison, of Martin, TN. She is also survived by Rick’s brother, Dr. Tom Flynn, of St. Francisville, LA.
Jan was a woman of devout faith who gave form to that faith in her life and works. She cam to Natchitoches in 1988 with husband Rick, the rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, and continued in service to the Parish and Diocese, following his death. She was active in the church Altar Guild Vestry, Episcopal Church Women, the Daughters of the King, and many teaching and service ministries of the church. She was an active member of P. E. O. as well.
Everyone knows her to have been a woman of great strength, faith, and loving care. These qualities formed her professional practice, life with family, and as the Rector’s wife, and in the service and faith that continued through retirement.
A memorial service will be scheduled at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchitoches at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Trinity Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice.
