Jerry Larpenter, 89 years old, passed away on 21 February 2020, in his residence in Edgewood, Texas, surrounded by his wife of 69 years, Mary Jane Matthews Larpenter, and family. He was born on 13 August 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Helen Lelia Vining Larpenter and Gilbert Joseph Larpenter. As he liked to tell us, he was the baby of his family for only 20 minutes, until he was joined by his twin sister Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alvin Larpenter, Emery Larpenter, Richard Larpenter, Gilbert (Junior) Larpenter, and by his sisters Merle Faulk, Mary Ruth Drury, and twin Jean Lavigne Prevost. He is survived by siblings James (Jimmy) Larpenter, Eleanor Wurst, and Sue Campbell. He is survived by his children, Carole Larpenter (Randy Buckner) of Edgewood, Texas; Randy Larpenter (Brenda) of Edgewood, Texas; Beth Larpenter Shurbutt (Eddie) of Oxford, Alabama; and Kevin Larpenter (Angela) of Tahoka, Texas. His surviving grandchildren are Laura (Mark) Newton, Bradley (Valerie) Larpenter, Ryan Larpenter, Mary Anna Shurbutt, Rachel Shurbutt, Kyle (Carrie) Larpenter, Kadi (Jakob) Stunz, and Kara (Luke) Fleenor. He has seven great-grandchildren. He served in the US Air Force and retired from the Natchitoches Post Office. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and traveling. He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and loved serving the Lord in many capacities. The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas, and especially Joyce and LaWanda for their compassionate care. Funeral arrangements will be Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Church of the Nazarene, 88 Friendship Rd, Robeline, LA. Burial will follow at Friendship Nazarene Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation to the Gideons International.
