John D. "Jack" Wingo, Jr.

June 21, 1932 — March 12, 2018

John Dow “Jack” Wingo, Jr. of Natchitoches passed away on March 12, 2018, at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.  John was born on June 21, 1932.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 3 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018, in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches with Rev. Tommy Rush officiating.  A reception and visitation where the family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time on the 15th, will be held in the Bostick Room at First Baptist Church of Natchitoches located at 508 2nd Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457. He was preceded in death by parents John Dow Wingo, Sr. and Thelma Taylor Wingo; wife Charlotte Cox Wingo; and in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Allan T. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Evert E. Smith. He is survived by his wife Wilma Smith Wingo; children and spouses John Allan and Mary Catherine “Cathy” Wingo, Cynthia Louise “Cindy” Wingo, Phillip Taylor and Karen Wingo, Charlotte “Suellen” and Jeff Weber, Louis “Alan” and Lisa Schuetz, and Brian Neal and Sandy Schuetz.  Grandchildren and spouses are Charlotte and Patrick McCorry, Mary Katherine and John Lancaster, Kristen and Chris Luquette, Leigh Anne Wingo; Alissa and Bryan Hazzard and Erin Weber; Morgan and Madison Schuetz; and Hanna, Wesley, and Dylan Schuetz.  He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was honorably discharged on March 20, 1952, with the rank of Sergeant.  The family is proud of his military service to our Country. He was co-owner of People’s Hardware which was renamed People’s Furniture and Gifts in 1978.   He also owned Wingo and Associates, a screen printing company, and later sold screen printing supplies.  In his latter years, he enjoyed woodworking – especially swings, crosses, and flowers. He was a former deacon and long-time member of First Baptist Church, Natchitoches, Louisiana.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed greatly. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, 7200 Desiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203.
