Joy Dowden Cockrum

A service to honor the life of Joy Faye (Dowden) Cockrum will be at 2 pm Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Kisatchie Baptist Church in Kisatchie, LA with Bro. Rickey Robertson officiating.  Burial will follow at Kisatchie Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home and again on the day of the service from noon until service time at Kisatchie Baptist Church located at 1809 LA HWY 118, Kisatchie, LA 71468. Joy, age 65 and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in Natchitoches.  She was born on October 1, 1952 to Donald Glenn Dowden and Nella Faye (Babb) Dowden in Natchitoches. Everyone who knew Joy knew of her heart of gold.  There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help others in need.  Often times she would sacrifice her own desires to aid someone needing assistance.  Although she never had children, she always treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nella Faye Babb Dowden; husband, Lyle Cockrum; sisters, Kristy Kay Dowden and Lynne Dowden Weaver and her husband, Randy Weaver.She is survived by her father, Donald Glenn Dowden of Natchitoches, LA; her brother, Don Wade Dowden and wife Elizabeth of Kisatchie, LA; her sisters, Donna Dowden Hernandez and husband Jerry of Natchitoches, LA, and Mary Dowden Yocum of Powhatan, LA; two step grandchildren, Kayla Cooper and husband Marshall and their son Phoenix and Brandon Wayne Cooper; close friends known as the magnificent 7, Susan McKenon, Gayle Garza, Nellie Utchman, Cinda Whitfield, Vicki Despreaux, Janet Howard, and Jeranne Rich; special family friend, Joseph A. Dunn, Jr.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Wesley Dowden, Billy Garland, Phillip Dowden, Pete Wardel, Kyle Yocum and Will Weaver.
