Martin Tim Murphy

Martin Timothy Murphy was born October 15, 1957, in Natchitoches, La. and passed away in his home March 26, 2025.

He will be deeply missed by his nephews, Will and Dakota Ryals, his niece Timi Murphy Caldwell, sister and brother, Marti and Mike Murphy, cousins Kevin Murphy and Karen Hillis, his best friend of many years, Jerry Smith and many more family and friends.

Tim loved Siamese cats and the New Orleans Saints but dedicated his life to music and songwriting. He began his career in 1977 as bassist for Al Ferrier.

In Dallas, he played with the 50’s and 60’s rock band at the Sock hop but rock and metal were his favorite genre, and he enjoyed playing that with the band, Tyrant.

Tim made a name for himself wherever he lived. In Los Angeles, so many musicians were vying for exposure, the bands had to presell tickets or raise money for the privilege of playing in clubs. Tim was actually paid to pay.

When he moved to Austin, The Tim Murphy Band was in lights on 6th street.

Along with his music, Tim also taught English at NSU and the University of Illinois in Bloomington.

Tim wrote and recorded many songs, over laying the backup instruments and vocals himself, till his passing.

The family will post a video and one of his songs on his You Tube channel, MurphSongs@Natch67, in dedication to him, his music and his life.

Tim may have moved on, but he has left his music with us. Let it stand as a testament to his life and devotion as it represents a lifetime of dedication to the mastery of his craft. It is our hope that even in death he may yet find the admiration and recognition he worked so hard for in his life.

I hope he knew he was already a rock star to us. We will miss you, Uncle Tim, little brother, Cuz.
