Mary Dee Williamson Green was born in Attala County, Mississippi on June 6, 1914, to James Smith Williamson and Mary Clevie Steed Williamson. She passed away on September 22, 2019, at the Lexington House nursing facility in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years (Sidney Walter Green, who passed away in 1998); her first child (Larry Devon Green, who passed away at 11 months); five sisters: Lorean, Esma, Bessie, Francis and Annie; and four brothers: Wallace, Jack, James and Morris. Mary is survived by two sons: Sidney D. Green (Roxie) of Willis, Texas and Ralph D. Green (Barbara) of Lillian, Alabama; six grandchildren: Lisa Green of Conroe, Texas, Leah Green Squyres (Don) of Conroe, Texas, Patrick Green of Portland, Oregon, April Green Christy (Matt) of Hineston, Louisiana, Ashley Green and Justin Green both of Maineville, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren: Kiley, Garrett and Carter Squyres, and Sadie, Jack and Beau Christy. Mary grew up on a farm in the hills of Mississippi. She worked in the fields, milked cows and did all the chores associated with farm life. In school, she enjoyed math, reading, spelling, and geography. She was quite athletic and participated in basketball and track. She also loved to dance. Mary and Walter Green were married in 1938 and began raising a family in Mississippi. In 1953 the family moved to Natchitoches where Walter worked for the Southern Cotton Oil Company. Mary worked for Nichols Department Store in Natchitoches for 18 years. After retiring at age 62, she began her lifelong dream of becoming an artist. She took drawing lessons from Kate Smith and painting lessons from Marie Luchek, followed by three semesters at Northwestern State University studying under Dr. Bill Byrant. Mary was a member of the Natchitoches Art Guild from its beginning and won many awards at the Orville Hanchey Gallery and at parish and state fairs. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 30, 2019, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until service time on Monday the 30th.
