Mary Doolittle Jones

A graveside service honoring the life of Mary Doolittle Jones, 93, will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday at Lambert Town Cemetery, Shamrock Road, Robeline, Louisiana. The service will be officiated by Reverend Steven McAlister, pastor and Brother Johnnie Dunn, minister of music and senior adults of Westside Baptist Church, Natchitoches. Mary Jones was born September 8, 1927 in Robeline, Louisiana, to John Leffel and Anna Rider Doolittle. Growing up during the Great Depression, Mary learned to be resourceful and the value of hard work from her parents on their farm in rural Louisiana. During World War II, Mary did her part for the war effort by working at the US Post Office in Shreveport, Louisiana, while the boys were off fighting the war which included her 4 brothers. After the war, she lived a fruitful life with lots of adventures with her husband of 43 years, Alexander Walton “Wally” Jones. They would live and work among the tumbleweeds of west Texas for several years and eventually find their way back to Mary's childhood home of Robeline. They enjoyed entertaining friends and family, riding horses, and going on trips to the Texas Hill Country. She was known far and wide for her excellent cooking skills which she happily share by cooking for those who had lost loved ones, were sick, and for church socials. Mary had a keen business mind and joined Mary Kay Cosmetics as a beauty consultant in 1975 in which she was very successful. Even in her 'retirement' she never stopped being an active Mary Kay consultant and sharing her knowledge and love of beauty products. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening and traveling, especially to Branson, Missouri. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital and often spoke of her 'old folks.' Mary was a woman of strong faith and was active in church throughout her life. Her family is greatly saddened by her passing but know that “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” We are blessed to have known Mary Doolittle Jones and will fondly remember her love, kindness, servant's heart, and zest for life. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Doolittle; devoted and loving husband, Alexander Walton Jones; sisters Bernice D Brock, Joyce D Carnline, and Minnie D Sirman; brothers, Floyd, Hyman, Mines (Buddy), and Johnnie Doolittle. Left to cherish her memory is sister June D Lee of Natchitoches, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Matthew Doolittle, Mark Doolittle, Stephen Lee, Roger Doolittle, John Lee Doolittle, James Arceneaux, Travis (Trey) Alexander, and Peyton Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Doolittle, David Varner Michael Doolittle, Floyd Doolittle, David Parish. The family would like to thank Mary’s loving care giver, Twan McDowell and nursing staff of Hospice of Natchitoches for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in Mary's honor to The Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, or her home church, Westside Baptist Church of Natchitoches.
