Mrs. Starnes, 88, of Natchitoches, LA., died Thursday, August 22, 2019, peacefully at her home with her children by her side in Natchitoches, LA. She was a native of Natchitoches, La. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted member of Christ the King Lutheran Church since 1968. Everyone that knew Mary Helen loved her, she always had the warmest heart and was always compassionate and caring with everyone. She enjoyed fishing, “especially” cooking, sewing, playing her organ, and even motorcycle riding (only for a short period). She graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1947, Reids Beauty Shop in 1954 and met future husband Jack N Starnes for 54 years. Lived in New Iberia, La, Honolulu, HI, San Antonio, TX and returning to Natchitoches in 1968. She was a devoted house wife / mother, delivered mail in Natchez, LA for a period and became a Watkins Distributor for 20+ years. Her greatest love was for her family, warmest friends and home. Although at times she was set in her own ways and didn’t hesitate to express her opinion, but always genuine and that is why we loved her so much. Every one of us takes a little something from her over the years and will cherish our stories and memories she passed on to us. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse L and Alice Antee Brossette; grandparents, Julian and Maude Brossette and Frank and Susie Antee; her husband, Jack N Starnes; and adopted sister Velma Romero of New Iberia, LA. She is survived by her daughter, Kellie Lee and husband Steve of Belleair Bch, FL; son, Jeffrey Starnes of St Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren, Tyler L Starnes and Kyle A Starnes of Orlando, FL; one great grandson, Sawyer A Starnes; other adopted sons, Todd Romero and Mitchell Romero of New Iberia, LA; sister in law, Vickie Jones and husband Bob of Shelby, NC; brother in law, Norman R.
