A funeral service to honor the life of Mary Jo Vascocu will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery until service time. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Roger Vascocu, Tim Vascocu, Bruce Vascocu, Daniel Sweeney, Mason Jeane, Jonathan Sweeney, Michael Twilligear, Kevin Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Jace Sweeney, Ryder Sweeney, and Ryker Moran. Mary Jo Vascocu was born on August 16, 1950 in Natchitoches, LA to Albert and Jewel Bennett. She was next to the youngest of nine children. She graduated Class of ’68 from Natchitoches High School. On October 8, 1971, she married James C. Vascocu, and together they had 2 children, Cynthia Lynn and Melissa Dawn. She was an excellent cook and loved her family get-togethers. She loved her brothers and sisters dearly. She spoiled all of her grandbabies rotten as well. Her favorite things to do was watch soap operas, play cards with family, play bingo, and enjoyed trips to the casino. She passed away on September 24, 2022, at her home, surrounded by family and loved ones after a long battle with congestive heart failure and renal failure. She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Vascocu; parents Albert and Jewel Bennett; half brothers, Elvis N., Albert C., and Sanford R. Bennett; half sister, Theresa DeBona and husband Frank; grandson, Justin R. Sweeney; nephew, Eric DeBona; sister- and brother-in-law, Patsy Bennett and Arnold Fredrick. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Sweeney and husband, Daniel, and Cyndi Weaver; grandchildren, Tiffany Moran, Jonathan, Jessica, Jace, and JoAnna Sweeney; great-grandchildren, Ryker and Mallorie Moran, Ryder Sweeney, and Natalie Oxley (Sweeney); brothers, Hubert and Albert Roy Bennett; sisters, Ann Tanner and husband Wayne, Judy Morrow and husband Joe; brother-in-law, Rufus Vascocu and wife Toni; sister-in-law, Lois Bennet; best friend and family was Aunt Wilma Stephens, 1st cousin, Sharon Savage; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would also like to thank NRMC ER Dept., NRMC 2nd floor nurses and staff, Wound Care doctors and staff, Hand in Hand Hospice Care of Natchitoches, and Professional Home Health.
