Melva Marie Singletary

Melva Marie Singletary, passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 96 in Doyline, Louisiana. Born on August 4, 1928, in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Melva had a fruitful career, retiring from Safeway at the age of 52, after which she immersed herself in the antique business. Her passion for antiques was not just a job but a reflection of her keen eye for beauty and history, which she cherished throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Smith Cobb(Sonny) and Karen Jean Smith; her sister, Sandra Ruth Hall Dragg; and her beloved grandchildren, Jeanna Marie Sulzer(Troy), Jonathan Lee Cobb, Laura Ann Huff(Jerry), Abigail Milam-Silva(Bruno), Preston Grady Milam(Sarah) and Hannah Ruth Milam(Matthew). Additionally, her legacy is carried on by her 23 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom adored her dearly.

Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Singletary, son Preston Rusaw Milam, along with her parents, Howard Lee Hall and Avery Mildred Hall. She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Kenneth Eugen Hall, Robert Dan Hall, and Jerry Wade Hall, as well as sisters Twin Mildred Lee Hall Merill, Geraldine Hall Foster, and Linda Nell Hall Liker. The loss of her grandchildren William Cobb Jr., Harold Robert Cobb, and Marie Yvonne Butcher.

Funeral services will be held on December 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Burial will follow at New Cedron Cemetery in Vowells Mill. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. 

Melva's life was characterized by love, hard work, and a deep dedication to her family. She will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
