Funeral service for Mrs. Mertie Bell Davis will be at 10 am Monday, August 27, 2018 at Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Robeline with Bro. Brian Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church located at 8673 LA-6, Robeline, LA 71469. Mertie passed away Friday, August 24, 2018, just seven days shy of her 96th birthday. She was born on August 31, 1922 to John and Rosalie (VanVeckhoven) Woodel in Sabine Parish. She was a long-time member of Hickory Grove CMC and served as church secretary for many years. She always enjoyed the fellowship with her church family. She held the noblest job; she was a homemaker for her family. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren brought her so much joy. Mertie was a resident of Community Care and served as President of the Resident Council. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with her many friends she made there. She possessed a great sense of humor and could always tell a story that would bring a smile to everyone’s face. She will be dearly missed but always remembered by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Myrtle Davis; her parents, John and Rosalie Woodel; as well as 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by her children, Jerry Holcomb and Marvin Davis and his wife Judy; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Dewayne Dockens, Donald Dockens, Harold Dockens, Rhett Thompson, Garland Whittle, Tommy Floyd, Jimmy Floyd and Charles Clary. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Guilliams and Taylor Guilliams.
