A service to honor the life of Mrs. Nellie McQueen will be at 10 am Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Hagewood, LA. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on Saturday the 13th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Nellie, 86 years of age and a resident of Bellwood, LA, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born on August 4, 1932, to Walter Long and Alice Hildebrand Long. She was the last sibling of a family that included 5 sisters and 4 brothers. She retired after 25 years of service as a Post Master and was a dedicated and hard worker her entire life. She enjoyed being a member of Bellwood Baptist Church for over 35 years where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and fellowship with her church family. Caring for her family was always her top priority; she deeply loved all of them but her grandsons held a special place in her heart. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, caring mother, and loving grandmother. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Leon McQueen; her sons, Steve McQueen and his wife Cindy and Michael McQueen and his wife Noelle. She was blessed with two grandsons, Britton, and Ragan McQueen as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Britton McQueen, Ragan McQueen, Larry DeBlieux, Gary DeBlieux, Paul McQueen, and Larry Rhodes. Memorial donations in Nellie’s name may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, 7200 Desiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
