Nelwyn Boydstun Poole

April 3, 1931 — February 15, 2018

A service to celebrate the life of Nelwyn Boydstun Poole will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Natchitoches, Louisiana, with Reverend Doug DeGrafenreid officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. Nelwyn, a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and resident of Natchitoches, Louisiana, after 86 years of wonderful living, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 with her family by her side.  She was born April 3, 1931 to Jackson B. Boydstun and Bernice H. Boydstun in Archibald, Louisiana. Nelwyn retired from teaching math after 20 years in the public school system.  She loved learning as much as she loved teaching and all of her formal education was received on the campus of Northwestern State University (from elementary school to graduate school).  She loved her family, her church and her friends she met through the church and her many organizations (UMW, PEO, Easter Star, APHN, and others).  She most enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing her many talents with them and others.  The word “no” was not in her vocabulary so she spent a lot of her time serving others through her time and talents. She was preceded in death by her parents Jackson Benjamin Boydstun and Bernice Hill Boydstun. She is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Daniel W. Poole, Jr., her children Nancy Hildebrand and her husband Bruce, Cindy Davis and her husband Jim, and Bill Poole and his wife Angela.  She is also survived by her sister Betty Carpenter and her husband Stuart, her brothers Jack Boydstun and David Boydstun, and sister-in-law Shirley Boydstun.  The grandchildren remembering their ‘Baw’ with many memories of fun and laughter are John Poole Hildebrand and wife Alice, Jackson Brent Hildebrand and wife Curri, Joseph Tynes Hildebrand and wife Emily, James Curtis Davis, III, Daniel William Poole IV, and Autumn Delwyn Poole.  Great-grandchildren are Hannah Marie Hildebrand and Hayden Logan Hildebrand (John’s children), Hudson Dean Hildebrand and Hazel Leigh Hildebrand (Jack’s children), and Ellie Kay Hildebrand and Charlotte Wyn Hildebrand (Joseph’s children). Those honored to serve as pallbearers as well as grandchildren are John Hildebrand, Jack Hildebrand, Joseph Hildebrand, Tripp Davis, Will Poole, and Autumn Poole.  The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Susie Sarpy who has loved on and cared for Nelwyn and Dan.  Also gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and especially to those who have cared and supported both Nelwyn and her family though these last days. Friends who would prefer not to send flowers are invited to give to the Dan and Nelwyn Poole Scholarship through the Northwestern State Alumni office, or to the First United Methodist Church.
