James Roy Sylvie passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in Louisiana at the age of 90. Roy was born April 9, 1929, in Derry, Louisiana, to Dorretta Couty and Jesse James Sylvie. He served as an altar boy at St. Augustine Church and attended St. Matthews High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He returned home to marry the love of his life, Dolores Chevalier, September 29, 1951, and continued to honorably serve his country until his discharge as a First Sergeant in February 1953. Roy and Dolores were blessed with five children. In 1958 Roy received a Bachelors's Degree in Political Science from Wiley College. He held many jobs over the years and retired after a 30-year career at ARA Services. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, confidant, and teacher. He lived a full life, rich in all things that were important to him and his loving wife Dolores…Faith in God, loving his family and friends completely, sharing all he had with anyone in need without question or hesitation. Roy is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years Dolores Chevalier Sylvie; his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy is preceded in death by his son Patrick, his parents Jesse and Dorretta, his brothers Edward, Benjamin, Jesse (Tiny), and Numa, and his sister Aleta (Teta). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with Rev. Charlie Ray serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8 am until the time of Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9 am.
