Ruby Lee Brossette Cheatwood, born on November 9, 1933, in Montrose, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, surrounded by her loving family. She was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother whose life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family and her selfless spirit.
Ruby was a devoted homemaker who found immense joy in raising her children. She embraced her role with warmth and love, creating a nurturing environment for her family. Ruby had an open-door policy, welcoming anyone in need into her home. Her generosity knew no bounds; no one who came to her door ever went hungry. She derived great pleasure from cooking for her family and friends, often filling her home with delightful aromas that reflected her caring nature.
In addition to her talents in the kitchen, Ruby had a deep passion for gardening and spent countless hours tending to her beloved plants and the hummingbirds that brought her joy. She loved conversing with these little creatures, finding happiness in their presence. Ruby also enjoyed playing bingo and relished the company of friends, always surrounded by laughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Laurent; her grandchildren, Kimberly Broadway and husband Clint, Veronica Jackson and husband Mike, Lauren Smith and husband Jimmy, Lucas Wayne Cheatwood, Ryan Laurent and wife Amber, Emily Cheatwood, Tara Shipp (Quentin) and Corie Allbritton (Kyle); as well as her great-grandchildren, Hunter Laurent, Tripp Smith, Luke Wayne Cheatwood, Nikolas Broadway, Mason Broadway, Summer Deleon, Kaden Strickland, Lillian Shipp, and Brailey Garsee.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Terrell Brossette and Felicity Kerry Brossette; her husband, Elton Cheatwood; her sons, James Cheatwood and Louis Cheatwood; her grandson, James "J.J." Cheatwood; and her siblings, L.C. Brossette, Isadore Brossette, Buster Brossette, Wilfred Brossette, Anna Tate, Raymond Brossette, and Rose Hayes.
Ruby's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Friends, family, and anyone who crossed Ruby’s path will remember her for her warmth, generosity, and the unwavering love she shared throughout her remarkable life.
Visitation will be held on January 4, 2025 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, from 10:00 AM to 11 AM for family and from 11 AM until 1 PM for the public. A service to honor her life will be held at 1:00 PM at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Ray officiating, burial will follow at Rachal Cemetery in the Marco Community near Lena, LA.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Lucas Cheatwood, Hunter Laurent, Billy Brossette, Kyle Rachal, Preston Broadwater, and Ryan Laurent. Honorary pallbearers are Westley Cheatwood, Frankie Hayes, and Kirby Moreau.
