Sam Salim

November 12, 1924 — April 9, 2022

Sam Salim passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 4:10am. His loving daughter Kaye Yancey was by his side. Sam came to this earth on November 12, 1924, and lived until he was 97 years old. Sam is survived by his daughter, Kaye, and her husband Bill, as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren: grandsons Donald Yancey (Shelly), Michael Yancey (Arlene), and Patrick Yancey; granddaughters Kristi Jeffcoat (Shawn)and Toni Salim; great-granddaughters Brooke Freeman (Brad), Amanda and Shelby Yancey, Courtney and Cassidy Yancey, Emily and Allison Jeffcoat, and great- great- granddaughter, Belle Elaine Freeman; great-grandsons Garrett Yancey (Claire),Tyler Yancey, Preston Greer (Patrice), and Nicholas Stein; and great-great-grandson Porter Greer. Per Sam’s wishes there will be a Celebration of Life instead of a formal ceremony. Sam was born and raised in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He attended St Mary’s high school where he was a stellar athlete. He was a member of the US armed forces in World War II where he fought in the Pacific conflict. He returned to Louisiana and married Myrtle. They had two children, Kaye and Billy. His children were the love of his life. Billy passed away at the young age of 61. Kaye has cared for Sam for the last twenty years of his life. The family is extremely grateful for all of the love and support Kaye and her family provided to Sam. Sam was the last in his family to pass away. His older brothers Malick and Joe died many years ago, and he lost his parents Tony and Hatoun Salim in the 1970’s. Sam never left his mother’s side until the day of her death. We have so many amazing memories of Sam. All who knew him have stories of his love, courage, adventure, humor, and strength. Sam was a family man and would do anything for his family. He was also a very dear friend to many. His character, his love, his strength and his charm will be greatly missed. We also have so many people to thank, and we hope that we can see everyone and share stories at Sam’s Celebration of Life gathering. This date will be announced soon. We love and miss you Sam and we will never forget you. Farewell Uncle Sam.
