Sam Taylor, 46, passed away from a heart attack on May 2, 2019, while attending class at Northwestern State University. Sam was born on August 20, 1972, in El Paso, Texas. Sam loved to build things and was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering so he could start a new chapter of his life, but these dreams went unfulfilled. Sam was passionate about learning and also sharing that knowledge to help improve the lives of people around him. He had strong views on religion, politics, and the environment, often championing debates in an attempt to bring change. Sam was quick of wit and easy to talk to; he had a natural talent for making anyone laugh. He is survived by his fiancée, Catherine Davis; his father, Samuel A. Taylor Jr.; his brothers Wynne P. Taylor and his wife Susanne of Natchitoches, and Evan R. Taylor and his husband Carl Sylvia of Dallas; his niece Anna Sophia Taylor; and many other cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Anne “Maggie” Carroll and her parents “Ed” Carroll and Fannie Louise “Jo” Carroll. There will be no service. The family asks that any donations be made to Rainforest Alliance and The HoneyBee Conservancy.
