Sherald Hicks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by his family on February 25, 2024. Sherald lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on January 16, 1938 in Reeves, Louisiana to Arnold Ruby and Thelma L Hicks. Sherald lived his life with a passion for helping others and exploring the world around him. Sherald’s love for travel took him to nearly every corner of the country, from the sandy beaches of Florida to the beautiful mountains of Colorado and even the ocean floor of Cozumel. Sherald married Nelda Ammons on September 16, 1994. In 2000, Sherald and Nelda moved to Toledo Bend Lake. It was there that so many great memories were made fishing, skiing, and tubing with family and friends. Sherald attended the Zwolle United Pentecostal Church for years where he made so many great friends. He loved God and Southern Gospel music!
Sherald worked at Petron for many years in Transportation Management. He went on to own his own hardware store, Bentley Hardware and trucking company, SL Hicks Inc. In his later years he drove a school bus for Grant Parish Schools and performed CDL test.
Sherald cherished the time spent with his loved ones. Whether it was a weekend getaway or a simple family dinner, he treasured every moment spent together, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Sherald’s life will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Raynes & Rev. Mason Briggs officiating. A burial will follow at Bethsaida Cemetery in Many, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Ruby Hicks and Thelma Cole, grandson Donny Hicks, and four brothers, Arnold, Ray, Roy, and Jimmy Hicks. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Nelda Hicks; five sons, Brian Hicks and wife Amy of Orange, VA, Troy Hicks and wife Mary of Dry Prong, LA, Dwayne Hicks and wife Rhonda of Lakeland, FL, Shane Clary of Baton Rouge, LA, and David Clary and wife Katherine of Natchitoches, LA; one daughter Sherrie Lebron of Ball, LA; grandchildren TJ Hicks and wife Brandie, Marcie Aguilar and husband Mark, Cody Hicks, Mason Briggs and wife Kimberly, Chloe Jordan and husband Will, Major Briggs and wife Katherine, Devin Hicks, Stephanie Clary, Brianna Clary, Kane Vergara, and Stevie Goodman. 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great-grand child, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include TJ Hicks, Cody Hicks, Mason Briggs, Major Briggs, Kevin Ammons, and Shane Clary.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at CHRISTUS Hospice St. Francis Cabrini for the care and compassion they provided to Sherald.
