Clarke Van Sickle

October 30, 1947 — December 22, 2024

Stephen Clarke Van Sickle, known by all as Clarke, was born on October 30, 1947, in Bristol, Virginia and passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Natchitoches, Louisiana with his family by his side.

A dedicated outdoorsman, Clarke found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending his time fishing, hunting, and tending to his beloved garden. He believed that with care and patience, anything could grow, much like the bonds he nurtured with those around him. Clarke was not only a skilled gardener but also a talented cook who delighted in preparing meals for family and friends during social gatherings, ensuring that every event was a fun time had by all.  Clarke’s years at Northwestern State University were marked by his involvement in the Kappa Sigma Theta Mu fraternity. This experience shaped his character and forged lifelong friendships, embodying the values of brotherhood and community.  Clarke was known for his vibrant personality and his love for spirited discussions. He had a unique ability to engage anyone around him in a debate, often challenging their viewpoints with a teasing smile. This lively energy was matched only by his deep affection for his family, who were central to his life.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Clarke Van Sickle II and wife Jessica, residing in Natchitoches; beloved grandchildren Elliana Van Sickle, Griffin Van Sickle, and Jonah Prestridge; and his cherished sisters, Ginny Johnson and Leslie Methvin. Clarke’s legacy continues through numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his love and passion for life.

Clarke was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Van Sickle and Florine Lindsey Van Sickle; and a sister, Kay Wiley.

Clarke’s life will be celebrated at 2 pm on Monday, December 30th with a visitation to be held from 12 noon until service time on the 30th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Fern Park Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Gary Roshto, Ronnie Smith, Lee Posey, Ken Guidry, Griffin Van Sickle, Erik Eliasson, and Kyle Methvin.

As we remember Clarke Van Sickle, we honor a life well-lived, one filled with outdoor adventure, laughter, and love for family. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
