Services for Van Morrell McCain will be held at 11 am Friday, August 2nd at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Morrell passed away Tuesday at the age of 92. Visitation will also be at Blanchard St. Denis on Thursday, August 1st from 5 pm until 8 pm. Morrell was born July 15th, 1927, in Verda, Louisiana, but lived most of his life in Natchitoches. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Van McCain and Arra Virginia McCain, and his siblings Violet Herald, Nolen McCain, Olen McCain (wife Mary), and Randall McCain (wife Laura). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nelda Smith McCain, and two sons Thomas Morrell McCain and Van Darrell McCain (wife Sherree), and his grandchildren Trevor, Trent, Travis (wife Tina), Jason McCain, and Melanie McCain Palma (husband Cris), and great-grandchildren Mayson, Loghan, Paul, Gavin, Jayden Aton, and Phoenix Palma. He served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a very hard working man, working in many different fields in order to provide for his family. He loved to watch boxing and pretend he was a part of the fight from his chair, he also loved going to the races. He was known for his practical jokes. He was a jack of all trades and loved working on things. Family and friends tell stories of his foot massages for pain relief. He was a great family man and will truly be missed. Serving as pallbearers are Trevor, Trent, Travis, Dustin Hayes, Buddy McCain, and Ronnie McCain.
